SEE PHOTOS BELOW – The Amsterdam Aviation Collector’s Fair was held at the Van Der Valk A4 Schiphol hotel on Sunday, February 23, 2020, and it was an amazing success! The Dutch have easily surpassed the American’s in offering what is now easily the world’s largest aviation and airline collectibles show. Most of the table stalls and vendors have airline related collectibles, but there is a broad base of aviation collectibles on offers to suite every taste. But the main specialization of offer are professional aircraft display models.

This page features two videos prepared by Henry Tenby on this amazing show, the first video (above) being a 15 minute look at the show from start to end. And the second video (below) features the fantastic selection of quality aircraft display models that were offered for sale at this show.

This year’s show featured just over the 300 tables, but it is noteworthy to mention the sheer abundance of professional aircraft display models (both airline and military) that were offered for sale at this show. I am now aware of any other show on the planet that consistently offers more display models for sale under the same roof. One would think that a country as large as the USA and with as many display model collectors as the USA would have a collectibles show dedicated to professional aircraft display models, but it is clearly not the case.

I think Americans prefer to sell their models on ebay in hopes of getting the highest price possible and do not want to take their surplus models to old school collectibles shows which are like the flea markets and antique shows of yesteryear. Which is a real shame. Selling on ebay is so impersonal and takes away from the fun of collecting, and attending real collectibles shows allows people to interact and meet new friends, and socialize with fellow collectors. Which is what I really like about attending the Amsterdam show.

Special thanks have to go to Patrick Van Rooijen and his amazing team of helpers for organizing such a to drawer show. Their efforts are extensive and span most of the year leading up to the show, and every detail is planned with military precision. The event is First Class in every respect and I am honoured to be associated with such an amazing event. For full information on next year’s show please visit their website at www.aviationfair.com for the the latest details.

Also featured below are a selection of photos from the 2020 Amsterdam Aviation Collector’s Fair. I hope to see you at the next year’s fair. Until then, happy collecting!

Report by Henry Tenby

As always, I attended this year’s airline collectibles show at Schwanheim in early November, and it never fails to impress. As the photos below demonstrate, there was a again a very impressive selection of models on offer for sale for discerning model collectors, at all price points from entry level at the sub 100 Euros range, all the way up to very rare models in the 1,000-1,500 Euros range.

Bothers Patrick and Ed an Rooijen from the Netherlands single handedly represented 95% of the models on offer at the show, as they both brought a huge selection of very nice models. Without their presence the show would have been underwhelming. Which is unfortunate, as it would be nice if had a stronger presence of model collectors and sellers from within Germany, Belgium and France, all of which close by countries boast impressive populations of hard-code model collectors.

Some might consider the FRA Schawnheim show to now be a practice/teaser show for the global grand-dady of airline collectibles shows which now takes place at Amsterdam every February. The Amsterdam show has come out of nowhere and built itself up to the main event for aircraft display model collectors on the world stage. CLICK here for more info n the Amsterdam show, and savour the photos from the Frankfurt show. Many of the models with remained unsold at Frankfurt will surely present themselves at Amsterdam for a second chance for interested buyers.

The second annual Amsterdam Aviation Fair took place at the Van der Valk Hotel Schiphol A4 on Sunday, February 24, 2019. For collectors of travel agent models and aircraft display models, this was an amazing show. I have been attending airline collectibles shows for the past 30 years, and collecting display models for just a s long, and can honestly say this show was the best show I have ever attended for models.

Model collectors congregated at the show from the US, Canada, Netherlands, Germany, France and other countries and there were table holders with models for sale of course from the Netherlands, as well as Germany, and France. For collectors of Verkuyl models, given that Matthias Verkuyl was based in Badhoevedorp where he produced his fine models from the 1950s to the 1990s, it only made sense that there was a large number of Verkuyl models for sale at this show.

Two notable collections of display models were recently brought to market after the collectors had released their collection due to old age, and the presence of these two collections at the Amsterdam Aviation Fair 2019 made this a special once-in-a-lifetime buying opportunity for model collectors. The reason being that many of the offered display models were old and rare, and they are not models that present themselves for purchase on a frequent basis.

My videos and photos below give a very good idea of the models that were offered for sale at the show. My suggestion for fellow collectors is to make plans to attend the next year’s Amsterdam Aviation Fair so as not to miss out on getting some really amazing models for your collection. You really do need to make the effort to attend the show because almost all of the display model sellers are only selling their models privately in person-to-person dealings at the show as they do not sell their models online via websites or auction sites like ebay.

If you see models you are interested in, make the effort and attend the next year show. You can get all the latest up to date information about the Amsterdam Aviation Fair by visiting their website www.aviationfair.com

This is a unique model of a 1920/30s era Lufthansa Junkers. Although the mixture of modern and vintage liveries is questionable. The model measures about 30 X 30 cm and appears to be of vintage manufacture, possibly hand built. It is certainly is an accurate model and classifies as being unique, as this will likely be the one and only such model like this a collector is likely to see in an entire lifetime of collecting.
